Watch List Update

As expected, the market had a hard time adding to Monday gains, but there were some winners out there. Today’s Watch List was kind of boring. However,  I gotta talk about YRCW – KABOOM…

Ironically, the first winner to mention was $YRCW.  One day after I said it hasn’t broken resistance, and quite honestly, when I was losing interest, it decides to rocket to the moon. I’ve been looking for the 1.75 breakout and if I would have stuck by my rules today, I would have still made 20+ % had I entered at that point.  Congrats if you waited patiently for this move. Sticking to the rules DOES pay off.

$FNSR continues to move. Congrats if you got in here after MA200 support bounce.

Current Watch List:

And speaking of patience – $BCON is testing mine, but I still want to be in this and ready for a move. Tight stops, of course.

I’m taking $UIS off the Watch List because it made its move.  Happy times.

Patience – again – waiting for the $PPHM move through .85.

Same story with $CFW – waiting on .80 to hit.

$ETFC – Waiting on move. I’m interested above 1.55

$UTSI – Come on 1.8 – DO IT.

Really, the same story runs all the way down the new additions to the WL.  $NG had the best day and continues to look bullish.

Natural Gas Watch List Update:

The bottom 1/2 of the WL focusses on natural gas / oil plays from Sunday’s research – lots of stocks were setup and ready to move.  As you can see, many of them have.  I’ll just leave the Nat Gas list up for the rest of the week to see how it plays the week out.

UIS Made the Move

I’ve been watching $UIS since last Wednesday hoping for a move through horizontal resistance out of ascending triangle. Well, today was that day. Congrats if you got a piece of the action.

Weekend Watch List Update

Quickly running down the existing list before I get to a few new ones:

$GNBT – I took some profits here last week and am not really that interested anymore.  We’ll see if we see some strength enter next week.

$BCON – I still like this one, just struggling with an entry.  If I take a position, you’ll see it in my tweets.

$SONS was a wonderful swing trade as it moved through MA200. I’m taking it off the list to look for new setups.

$UIS – Still watching horizontal resistance at 1.90

$CVM – Got the move, but am not interested in a new long position until it finds its way back to MA50. Taking off the list.

$ALTU is just not behaving – too much volatility and not enough trending.  I’m leaving this one alone, for now.

$APOL – Hmm. Not a lot of interest here.. I think I’ll move on.

$AKRX – I was really interested in AKRX Wednesday night. Thursday would have been an interesting scalp day, but now I don’t see a comfortable entrance that fits my style.

$YRCW - Fail.  Glad it didn’t break 1.75 before the fail or I might have gotten hurt

$PPHM – Definitely keeping this one around. It is trying desperately to breakout of this MA50 support ascending triangle. A move to .85 and I’m interested.

$BARE – I was actually watching BARE as a short  if it fell below 7.5. Instead, BARE has made a very nice bull move.  But, gotta take it off my list because I’m looking for setups, not stocks that have already moved.
See my Sunday post for new stocks to watch for next week… gut tells me it may not be so fun for the bulls, so I’m preparing for some shorts, just in case.

Thursday Watch List Update

Wow. Tough day on the Watch List… Yes, there were a few movers, but most were hard to play, at best.

Time to bring out one of my hard-learned lessons… don’t buy gap-ups – Let it play the day out (at least the first few hours) and be sure of strength.  Sometimes it works to buy a gap open, but not very often and you really have to watch the volume to see if the gap is sustainable – it won’t move up from there without some kind of volume interest through 11amEST. All of these stocks from the Watch List gapped up and gave it back:

CVM – wow – massive gap-up, but the volume quickly DECREASED and the priced dropped  from .58+- all the way down to .49+- in the first 30 minutes.  As you can see, the volume never picked back up and there was never a good long entry.

ALTU – Same story.

AKRX – Another massive gap-up with no energy through the day.

BARE – The one stock that did gap-up and continue bullish was BARE.. but notice the difference – move with volume through 11am.  Nice bounce off support.

The others from the Watch List:

UIS - Didn’t break through resistance, so I don’t have an interest yet.

$APOL – I didn’t take a position (wasn’t online), but it did move through MA200 today – BUT, the volume didn’t come in so I’m not surprised it didn’t hold.  Still worth watching.

$YRCW – I was watching YRCW to see if it was going to move through horizontal resistance, but it didn’t, so I didn’t play.  Good thing – tanked after hours.  This is a good example of why I must have confirmation of the move with volume before taking a position – YRCW never gave that confidence or even made it through resistance at all, for that matter.  So, why take a risky position into the after-market earnings

PPHM – didn’t breakout.. no entry.

Watching Thursday

As expected, the market didn’t show a lot of confidence with only a few stocks showing significant movement (small bio/pharma types, for example).  I hope to put some money on the table tomorrow if time permits.

From the calendar:

Jobless Claims 8:30 AM ET – this could rally the markets or fuel uneasiness.

EIA Natural Gas Report10:30 AM ET

New stocks on technical Watch List:
(bullish plays for scalps and swing trades – market down? – not likely these will play out).
$UIS – Ascending triangle. Looking for 1.90 breakout before entry.
$CVM – Trades in peak, then consolidation patterns using MA50 as support.  Volume today – peak tomorrow? might be high risk scalp.
$ALTU – Tough one to play since it moved up 22% today, but I might be interested in a pullback entry at 39.5-40 range. If it goes up tomorrow, I won’t chase. My stop would be .35.
$APOL – Hanging out between MA50 and now testing MA200.
$AKRX just looks bullish. Looking to run to MA200.
$YRCW – Triangle hitting against resistance. Looking for breakout, but earnings tmrw pm, so b careful
$PPHM – I’m ready for a move out of this horizontal resistance level. CHART
$BARE trying to breakdown (short) below current horizontal support.

First,  I have to watch $ESLR since I have a small position leading into tomorrow’s earnings.  I’ll weigh the traffic tomorrow and then decide on whether I get out before our after earnings.  High risk.
