Started a Garden
So, I’ve decided to start up a vegetable garden in the backyard. Nothing big, nothing fancy, no exotic veggies created in labs or from far away places known for their perfect tomatoes. Nope, just a simple garden with Lowe’s grown tomatoes, peppers, cucumbers and okra.
Hope it all works out – last year I tried and it didn’t go so well – the sun killed it. Hmm, maybe I killed it.
One win I’ve already booked this year- I figured out how to get rid of pill bugs. Last year, they ate what the sun didn’t and it wasn’t two days after I planted this year that they were gorging themselves on cucumber leaves.
Wanna get rid of them quickly? Use Diatomaceous Earth. I haven’t seen one pill bug in days. Seems to work. I need to read up on the stuff and make sure it won’t kill me if I eat produce grown in dirt treated with this insecticide. Maybe I should have looked into that BEFORE I powdered the bed like a winter snow. More to come on this stuff.
Side note – you can also use grapefruit to get rid of pill bugs.. they love it. when the fruit is covered with bugs, just toss it or knock the bugs off on the other side of the yard.
I’ll post pictures of the garden throughout the summer – let’s hope it’s a good story and not the chronicles of a slow death of a few tomato and pepper plants.
