New to the Watch List

Hello, all.  Hope Tuesday treated you well.

Watch List update:

CHINA continues strong with gains over 20% since its addition to the WL.

SONS made a great breakout and now sits over 10% up.

MI made moves and appears to have more in the tank.

LVLT continues to run.

Outside of that, the others are still worth watching (it only takes one) as we head into Wednesday.  I especially like URRE and CEGE.  The only failure on the list came from ALTU – uggggllly today down over 35%.  Luckily, the setup never triggered a buy prior to their horrible press release this morning.

New to the WL:

XOMA – Good looking consolidation here.  I’m looking for a breakout above 9.

VVTV – Ready to move on a MACD crossover?

Monday’s Watch List Update

This is options expiration week and we’re a little over bought on the broader markets – what does that mean? Time to be very careful. I’m likely to spend a lot of time on the sidelines with in-out scalps trades only.

Here are a few I’m watching for possible breakouts to the long side:

URRE – testing MA50 on tightening bollinger bands.  Looking for MA50 breakout.

MI is hitting hard against MA200. Might take a small long swing position on move through.

CEGE – looking for triangle breakout.

Watching ALTU against MA50 / MA200. Breakout scalp comin?

Sniffing around ASTM – Feels like a breakout coming this week.  Might scalp if it moves.

I like KOOL here. Another possible scalp on a pop up.

WAVE – Which way will this pennant breakout? If up, I might participate.

SONS – Watching over 2.15

CHINA – Possible swing opportunity on move through MA20. Nice volume to finish the week.

VTG – Looking for the MA50 resistance breakout.

Watching for continuation MOMO plays:

AVNR – Massive day on Friday – watching for continuation and possible momo scalp.

SBLK – Friday was the real entry date for this, but there might be more to come on this triangle breakout. Worth eyeballing.

Portfolio Update

SHIIIITTTT.  I sold VG yesterday for what I thought was great gains (19%), just to see it shoot up over 165% today.  WOW – that’s all i can say.  Time to short it maybe.

  • Long FTR at 7.12.  Really was hoping for a larger move today.. testing horizontal resistance.
  • Long PVX at 5.21.  Same thing here.. was looking for more through horizontal resistance. Still holding.
  • Long small position in AIQ at 5.30.  I was happy with this performance today.  Still holding.
  • Long ALTU at .335 and sold at .35 for 5% gain.  Probably should have held, but wanted to minimize exposure.
  • Still holding VRNM.

Weekend Watch List Update

Quickly running down the existing list before I get to a few new ones:

$GNBT – I took some profits here last week and am not really that interested anymore.  We’ll see if we see some strength enter next week.

$BCON – I still like this one, just struggling with an entry.  If I take a position, you’ll see it in my tweets.

$SONS was a wonderful swing trade as it moved through MA200. I’m taking it off the list to look for new setups.

$UIS – Still watching horizontal resistance at 1.90

$CVM – Got the move, but am not interested in a new long position until it finds its way back to MA50. Taking off the list.

$ALTU is just not behaving – too much volatility and not enough trending.  I’m leaving this one alone, for now.

$APOL – Hmm. Not a lot of interest here.. I think I’ll move on.

$AKRX – I was really interested in AKRX Wednesday night. Thursday would have been an interesting scalp day, but now I don’t see a comfortable entrance that fits my style.

$YRCW - Fail.  Glad it didn’t break 1.75 before the fail or I might have gotten hurt

$PPHM – Definitely keeping this one around. It is trying desperately to breakout of this MA50 support ascending triangle. A move to .85 and I’m interested.

$BARE – I was actually watching BARE as a short  if it fell below 7.5. Instead, BARE has made a very nice bull move.  But, gotta take it off my list because I’m looking for setups, not stocks that have already moved.
See my Sunday post for new stocks to watch for next week… gut tells me it may not be so fun for the bulls, so I’m preparing for some shorts, just in case.

Thursday Watch List Update

Wow. Tough day on the Watch List… Yes, there were a few movers, but most were hard to play, at best.

Time to bring out one of my hard-learned lessons… don’t buy gap-ups – Let it play the day out (at least the first few hours) and be sure of strength.  Sometimes it works to buy a gap open, but not very often and you really have to watch the volume to see if the gap is sustainable – it won’t move up from there without some kind of volume interest through 11amEST. All of these stocks from the Watch List gapped up and gave it back:

CVM – wow – massive gap-up, but the volume quickly DECREASED and the priced dropped  from .58+- all the way down to .49+- in the first 30 minutes.  As you can see, the volume never picked back up and there was never a good long entry.

ALTU – Same story.

AKRX – Another massive gap-up with no energy through the day.

BARE – The one stock that did gap-up and continue bullish was BARE.. but notice the difference – move with volume through 11am.  Nice bounce off support.

The others from the Watch List:

UIS - Didn’t break through resistance, so I don’t have an interest yet.

$APOL – I didn’t take a position (wasn’t online), but it did move through MA200 today – BUT, the volume didn’t come in so I’m not surprised it didn’t hold.  Still worth watching.

$YRCW – I was watching YRCW to see if it was going to move through horizontal resistance, but it didn’t, so I didn’t play.  Good thing – tanked after hours.  This is a good example of why I must have confirmation of the move with volume before taking a position – YRCW never gave that confidence or even made it through resistance at all, for that matter.  So, why take a risky position into the after-market earnings

PPHM – didn’t breakout.. no entry.
