Movie Night: Up in the Air.
I liked it. I’m not usually overly impressed with Clooney, but this was a good movie simply for the fact that it makes you think about life, where you are, who you are, what you surround yourself with, and where you’re going.
The movie, mainly through Clooney’s character, spends the majority of the time poking fun at the cookie-cutter American dream… you graduate, then get married, have kids, grow old, and live happily ever after. Clooney argues that it is all just weighing you down and everyone should just “empty their backpacks”.
The movie takes a turn in the second half as he questions what he is and his arguments that relationships and ‘baggage’ are not worth holding on to.
Good story, lots to think about – are you in a career that you love? What’s in your backpack? What is the American dream? 3 out of 5 stars. Worth rental, maybe worth the theater.
