So, I’ve decided to start up a vegetable garden in the backyard. Nothing big, nothing fancy, no exotic veggies created in labs or from far away places known for their perfect tomatoes. Nope, just a simple garden with Lowe’s grown tomatoes, peppers, cucumbers and okra.
Hope it all works out – last year I tried and it didn’t go so well – the sun killed it. Hmm, maybe I killed it.
One win I’ve already booked this year- I figured out how to get rid of pill bugs. Last year, they ate what the sun didn’t and it wasn’t two days after I planted this year that they were gorging themselves on cucumber leaves.
Wanna get rid of them quickly? Use Diatomaceous Earth. I haven’t seen one pill bug in days. Seems to work. I need to read up on the stuff and make sure it won’t kill me if I eat produce grown in dirt treated with this insecticide. Maybe I should have looked into that BEFORE I powdered the bed like a winter snow. More to come on this stuff.
Side note – you can also use grapefruit to get rid of pill bugs.. they love it. when the fruit is covered with bugs, just toss it or knock the bugs off on the other side of the yard.
I’ll post pictures of the garden throughout the summer – let’s hope it’s a good story and not the chronicles of a slow death of a few tomato and pepper plants.

Well, I finally sat down and watched a few movies over the weekend and picked one that was ok and one that sucked.
First, let’s start with what sucked – Cube 2. UG. Years ago, I truly enjoyed Cube and thought it was a very clever and entertaining movie. The second one was aweful.. was I just too young or dumb at the time that Cube was released to realize how crappy these movies are, or was it actually done much better than the second? Hell, I don’t know. What I do know is that I’ll have to punch you in the neck if you go out and watch Cube 2. I love the theme behind the movie (ability to manipulate multi-dimensional space), but the execution looks like they had 50 bucks to work with on special effects. 1/2 star outa 5.
The second movie was The Taking of Pelham 1 2 3. Ok, this was better. I enjoy any movie Denzel Washington is in. He’s got a simple, calming, relaxed demeanor and he always delivers as expected. Not an amazing performance, but strong.
Same could be said for John Travolta. Solid actor offering a performance you would expect.. good, but not great.. He’s had some ‘greats’, but this wasn’t it.
As a stock trader, I got a kick out of the movie and found it entertaining. There were not any surprises or ‘ah hah’ moments. Instead, it was one of those movies you would watch on TNT one night and feel somewhat fullfilled. Worth a rental if you split the cost with someone. 3 outa 5 stars.
Friday was a tough trading day for me, but I was up overall for the week. Now that I have two weeks of full time trading experience behind me, I feel like I’m finally ready. Up to this point, I’ve focused on organizing and preparing myself for a new life. Now that I’m settled, it’s time to start making some real money trading and helping my fellow BOWS team build up the business.
